KwaZulu-Natal
is one of South Africa’s most popular holiday destinations
that offers the visitor natural wonders, modern

province has a warm sub tropical climate, which can best
be described as all year round tourist friendly.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: |
|
1
Durban: Africa’s principal port and South Africa’s
principal holiday destination, with miles of beautiful beaches
and hundreds of other activities and attractions, including Fun
World situated on the Marine parade; Minitown; Water world; and
the Umgeni steam railway, which operates every last Sunday of
the month with a scenic ride through the Valley of a Thousand
Hills.
2
The Dolphin Coast: The very best part of the KwaZulu-Natal
coastline - scenic beauty, lovely beaches, dolphins playing,
lots of accommodation, restaurants, peace and quiet. Places of
interest include Ballito Bay, known for its superb
beaches, and Umhlali, which has a quaint sugar village
theme with buildings decorated in an old war flavour.
3
Pietermaritzburg: Is one of South Africa’s most historic
capitals - a thriving friendly city. The city boasts many
museums, parks and a botanical garden.
4 Drakensberg:
The majestic Drakensberg rises to over 3 000meters. Known to the
Zulu people as the 'Barrier of Spears', the mountains provide a
magnificent semi-circular border between KwaZulu-Natal and the
inland mountain kingdom of Lesotho. The mountain peaks are
frequently covered in snow in the winter months, transforming
the area into a picture-postcard winter wonderland. Popular with
hikers, rock climbers, trout fishermen, and other holidaymakers,
the area offers a wide range of hotels, country lodges, and bed
and breakfast accommodation venues, as well as camping sites and
caravan parks.

5 Zululand:
Zululand is home to an astonishing variety of wild game. There
are many game reserves, parks and farms in the region
which are dedicated to
the conservation and heritage of wildlife. In all of Africa,
there are few regions so richly endowed with the spectrum of
wildlife - from the `Big Five', which include elephant, lion,
rhino, leopard and buffalo, to the prehistoric crocodile,
Zululand has them all and more. The bird life is equally varied
and the region is a bird-watchers paradise.
6 The
Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park: A very special slice of
Africa, the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park offers ecotourists
some of the most diverse wildlife and outdoor experiences
imaginable. Besides Lake St. Lucia - a unique, 38 000ha expanse
of lake, islands and estuary - the park incorporates an
astonishing variety of habitats ranging from mountains to
grasslands, forests, wetlands, mangroves and vegetated dunes.

While swimming in the
lake is prohibited due to the presence of crocodiles,
recreational options abound.
7 U
m f o l o z i Park:
Set in the heart of Zululand, this is the oldest game reserve in
Africa, where Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka hunted and
put in place the first conservation
laws. The Park is world
renowned for its white rhino conservation.
8 Blood
River: The reconstructed battle site at Blood River,
situated near Dundee in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, dramatically
illustrates a victory for fire power and military strategy in
one of the most famous battles in South African history. The
battle site is a remarkable monument consisting of 64 replica
Voortrekker wagons cast in bronze and situated just as they were
on the day of the famous battle.
